Prince El Hassan opens community centre at Gaza Camp Health Centre in Jerash

Jerash, June 23 (Petra) — Honourary President of Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (JMAP) Prince El Hassan bin Talal opened a community centre at the Gaza Camp Health Centre in Jerash on Monday.

In the presence of officials, institutional representatives and organisation leaders, Prince El Hassan called for upholding shared human dignity and integrating a humanitarian perspective into all development and relief efforts.

He called for reliance on sustainable funding sources that do not foster dependency but instead promote human dignity rooted in the concept of citizenship.

Prince El Hassan added that reducing reliance on foreign aid can be achieved through regional cooperation and coordination across the Levant, noting the significance of building trust with all segments of society and adopting a societal approach to development projects to benefit broader and more inclusive groups.

Michel Sayegh, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the association, stated that the opening of the community centre coincides with its first project, “Renewing Hope in the Camp.”

The initiative aims to improve the living environment of camp residents through community activities such as street cleaning, planting trees in public spaces and painting murals that reflect the collective culture and aspirations of camp residents.

The efforts are carried out in partnership with government institutions, civil society organisations and other entities operating within the camp.

Amal Tashtoush, Director of the Gaza Camp (Jerash) Centre, urged partnerships between civil society and official bodies in bringing about real, sustainable change in residents’ lives.

She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian and social efforts to build a more just and dignified society.

The establishment of the community centre in Gaza Camp (Jerash) is a humanitarian initiative designed to provide a safe and supportive environment, especially for children and women.

It offers a range of social programmes aimed at empowering children and women and encouraging their active participation in society.
