Princess Sumaya sponsors launch of national program to promote nuclear security ecosystem

Amman, May 11 (Petra) – HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, emphasized the need to equip Jordanian youth with advanced technological skills, with a particular focus on promoting a robust nuclear security ecosystem and culture.

Speaking on the princess’s behalf at the launch of a new national training program that aims to promote a robust nuclear security ecosystem and culture, Arafat Awajan, vice president of RSS for Scientific Research, conveyed Her Royal Highness’s pride in supporting initiatives that strengthen nuclear security awareness. The program, launched on Sunday by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) in partnership with the RSS and international partners, aims to build national capacity through targeted youth engagement.

Addressing an audience that included university presidents and experts from both the EMRC and RSS, the speech emphasized that such programs reflect the essence of the Hashemite vision: investing in the intellect of the Jordanian people. Youth, it stated, are the country’s most renewable resource, and their empowerment through knowledge and scientific tools is vital for overcoming challenges and building a prosperous future.

Ziyad Saaida, Chairman of the EMRC Board of Commissioners, affirmed that the initiative demonstrates the commission’s commitment to fostering a national nuclear security culture grounded in awareness and high-quality training. The program will offer 10 specialized training courses for university students, covering key topics such as radiation safety, legislative and regulatory frameworks, radiological protection, and emergency response systems.

University presidents expressed their appreciation for Princess Sumaya’s patronage and leadership in strengthening higher education and bridging the gap between academic research and practical application.

Attendees praised the collaborative efforts of the EMRC and RSS in empowering Jordanian youth to engage meaningfully in nuclear security and play a vital role in the national safety framework.

The program aims to cultivate a generation of well-informed and capable Jordanian youth, fostering a sustainable national culture of nuclear security that ensures safe, responsible use of nuclear technology.

It also marks a new chapter in building a strong national partnership between regulatory authorities and academic institutions, aligning with Jordan’s vision to be a regional model for the safe use of technology, resource protection, and the promotion of societal stability and sustainable development.
