Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) — Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director
Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah met on Monday with Taghreed Jaber,
Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Penal
Reform International (PRI), to discuss closer cooperation and
building on an existing partnership in rehabilitation and criminal
justice.
Maaytah said cooperation with PRI supported programs aimed at
improving operations at correctional and rehabilitation centers,
developing staff capacities, and assisting inmate rehabilitation and
reintegration programs.
He pledged the PSD will pursue cooperation with PRI, particularly in
developing addiction treatment and rehabilitation programs at the
Anti-Narcotics Department’s (AND) Addiction Treatment Center and the
addiction treatment facility at Birayn Correctional and
Rehabilitation Center.
Such cooperation will help improve treatment and rehabilitation
services and enhance recovery and social reintegration programs in
line with international practices and standards, he said.
For her part, Jaber commended PSD’s efforts in correction and
rehabilitation and its approach to managing correctional and
rehabilitation centers. She affirmed PRI’s commitment to continuing
cooperation with PSD in support of rehabilitation, recovery, and
social reintegration programs.
