Amman, July 1 (Petra) – The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has issued a stern warning against concealing or altering vehicle license plates by any means, including scratching, inking, or other forms of tampering. The PSD emphasized that such acts raise suspicion and carry serious legal consequences.

The directorate underscored the importance of maintaining the integrity of both front and rear license plates, describing them as a vital part of a vehicle’s identity. These plates not only contribute to road safety but also aid authorities in monitoring traffic violations and conducting investigations related to traffic and security incidents.

It stressed that individuals who deliberately obscure their license plates often do so with the intent of committing unlawful acts, some of which may pose significant danger warranting strict enforcement and legal action.

The PSD noted that both traffic and criminal investigation departments possess advanced technical capabilities to identify and track such vehicles, enabling them to apprehend violators. Several offenders have already been detected and arrested through these capabilities.

According to the amended traffic law, tampering with vehicle license plates is considered a serious offense. Violators may face a prison term ranging from one to three months, a fine between JD250 and JD500, or both penalties.
