Public Works Minister inspects progress on Al-Muwaqqar–Azraq, Sports City access roads

Amman, May 24 (Petra) – Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abul Samen conducted a field inspection on Saturday to review progress on the Al-Muwaqqar–Azraq road project and the road leading to the new Sports City in the Al-Muwaqqar District.

According to a statement from the ministry, the minister visited the access road to the upcoming Sports City, which branches off the Al-Muwaqqar–Azraq road and extends for approximately 3 kilometers. The scope of work includes diverting a seasonal watercourse, constructing culverts, and installing road safety features. The road is part of the government’s broader plan to establish a new international football stadium.

Abul Samen stressed the importance of maintaining the current pace of execution to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

He also reviewed the ongoing rehabilitation of the Al-Muwaqqar–Azraq road, a critical route linking the capital to the town of Azraq and further on to the Saudi and Iraqi borders.

The ministry has completed rehabilitation of 30 kilometers of the route and is now working on an additional 16 kilometers, reaching the Azraq triangle area.

The project includes milling old asphalt layers, laying new asphalt, upgrading road safety infrastructure, and maintaining the concrete bridge in the Al-Muwaqqar industrial zone.
