Doha, October 21 (QNA) – Qatar University has announced plans to host an international conference on an Islamic charter for family mediation on November 23, aimed at developing a global framework to protect rights, preserve family ties and promote social stability.
The conference is being organized by Qatar University’s Colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies and Law, in partnership with the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Ministry of Social Development and Family.
Speaking at a press conference announcing the event, Dr Ibrahim Al Ansari, dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, said the proposed charter responds to contemporary challenges facing families and the need to establish a sound Islamic legal basis for mediation while ensuring ethical standards for practitioners.
He said the conference would bring together scholars, researchers and experts to examine the religious, legal, judicial and social dimensions of family mediation.
Meanwhile, HE Judge Hareb Al Mohannadi, head of the Follow-up Affairs Office at the Family Court, said family protection was firmly established in Qatar’s Permanent Constitution.
He noted that mediation could strengthen family justice by enabling amicable dispute resolution, preserving family relationships and reducing the burden on courts.
Al Mohannadi also highlighted cooperation between the Family Court and Qatar University in training family mediators. The partnership has resulted in the graduation of the first cohort of a mediation diploma program, while a second cohort is currently enrolled.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for developing common principles for family mediation, bringing together religious guidance, legal safeguards and professional ethics in support of families in Qatar and internationally. (QNA)
