Amman, Aug. 22 (Petra) — Royal Jordanian Airlines and Air China
signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing on the sidelines of
His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to China.

According to a Royal Jordanian statement Saturday, the memorandum
aims to strengthen and develop air transport cooperation between
Jordan and China, expand commercial and operational cooperation,
enhance the airlines’ competitiveness in global markets, and pave the
way for further cooperation, including the launch of new air routes.

Under the memorandum, Royal Jordanian and Air China will explore
opportunities for codeshare agreements on several key routes and
leverage their respective hubs in Amman and Beijing to offer
passengers broader travel options and more efficient, seamless
connections.

The two carriers will also cooperate in several commercial areas,
including interline agreements, product and service training, brand
promotion, and enhanced operational support. This includes ground
handling, air cargo, and in-flight catering at their Amman and
Beijing hubs, supporting high-standard air services.

Royal Jordanian Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Samer
Majali said the signing of the memorandum represents an important
milestone in the airline’s strategy to strengthen its presence in
China and the Far East, stressing the importance of Air China as a
strategic partner.

“Beijing represents a major gateway to broader Asian markets, while
Amman serves as a key hub for the Levant region. By strengthening our
commercial cooperation and exploring future codeshare opportunities,
we seek to expand Royal Jordanian’s network, provide passengers with
smoother connectivity options, and support the success of the planned
direct air route between the two capitals,” Majali said.

According to the statement, Qu Guangji, General Manager of China
National Aviation Holding Corp. and President of Air China, said
Royal Jordanian and Air China have well-established cooperation and
broad prospects for further developing their partnership. He said the
two national carriers are working to build a strong air link between
Jordan and China.

Qu said Air China would provide full support to Royal Jordanian in
launching nonstop direct flights between Amman and Beijing. He
expressed the company’s desire to continue strengthening its
partnership with Royal Jordanian in a way that would help boost
tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between Jordan and China
and capitalize on opportunities for joint development.

The signing of the memorandum represents an important step in
strengthening aviation cooperation between Jordan and China and gives
fresh momentum to the development of the air transport market in both
countries.

Building on the memorandum, Royal Jordanian and Air China will
continue expanding their areas of cooperation and developing their
partnership to help establish a more accessible and efficient “air
bridge” that supports travel and people-to-people connectivity while
strengthening economic and commercial ties and cultural and tourism
exchanges between Jordan and China.
