Royal Medical Services achieves milestone in genomic research, care

Amman, Oct. 18 (Petra) – The Royal Medical Services’ (RMS) Military
Oncology Centre achieved a milestone in genomic medicine and advanced
molecular diagnostics by localizing cutting-edge genetic testing and
cancer diagnostic technologies in Jordan.

The center established Jordan’s first fully integrated in-house
system for Whole Exome Sequencing (WES). It is now the only
laboratory in the Kingdom capable of executing the entire testing
process, from sample processing to final report certification,
without sending samples or genetic data abroad.

The facility processed its first local Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
sample and introduced liquid biopsy technology to detect
cancer-related genetic mutations, helping doctors tailor targeted
treatments.

Dr. Rame Khasawneh, head of the military oncology labs and senior
consultant in molecular pathology and genetics, said the achievement
showcases growing national capabilities in genomic medicine and
improves diagnostic accuracy.

Dr. Ahmad Bawa’neh, director of the Military Oncology Centre, added
that these advancements align with the RMS vision to invest in local
talent, modernize specialized medical care, and bolster Jordan’s
standing as a regional leader in medical innovation.
