Russia Backs New Round of Peace
Talks with Ukraine
Moscow, 21 Jul (ONA) — The
Kremlin today announced that Russia is prepared to engage in fresh peace
negotiations with Ukraine, acknowledging that bridging the gap between both
sides’ positions will require substantial diplomatic efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv has
submitted a proposal to Moscow for renewed talks this week, emphasizing the
urgency of accelerating negotiations to secure a ceasefire.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow would
disclose details once both parties finalize the timing for the next round of
discussions. “We’ve drafted a memorandum of understanding, and Ukraine has
presented its own version,” Peskov said. “The two documents remain
fundamentally opposed at this stage, requiring further dialogue.”
The two nations previously conducted negotiations in Istanbul on
16 May and 2 June 2025, resulting in prisoner exchanges and the repatriation of
soldiers’ remains. However, nearly three and a half years into the conflict,
diplomatic efforts have yet to yield meaningful progress toward either a
lasting ceasefire or a comprehensive peace agreement.
