Khartoum, Aug. 2, 2026 (SUNA) – The Security and Defense Council held a meeting on Sunday chaired by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), during which it reviewed the overall security situation in the country, assessed the progress of military operations, and discussed measures aimed at strengthening security and stability. The Council congratulated the Sudanese Armed Forces, other regular forces, supporting forces, and the Sudanese people on the victories achieved across various fronts. It also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in defense of the nation, wished a speedy recovery to the wounded and injured, and expressed hope for the release of captives and the return of those reported missing. The Council reviewed the plans and preparedness of the Sudanese Armed Forces, the regular forces, and the supporting forces, affirming their readiness to defend the country and safeguard its security and sovereignty. It also discussed the challenges facing national security and adopted a number of decisions and measures aimed at reinforcing the rule of law and combating organized crime. Among the key decisions, the Council approved the establishment of special courts to handle cases involving drug-related crimes, human trafficking, arms smuggling, and gold smuggling. The Council also issued a decision prohibiting members of the regular forces and supporting forces from being present in mining areas, and ordered the confiscation of military weapons and vehicles found in violation of the directive. The Security and Defense Council reaffirmed the state’s commitment to continuing all necessary measures to protect national security, strengthen the rule of law, and confront all security threats in a manner that preserves the country’s stability and the safety of its citizens.
