Aqaba, May 18 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday inaugurated the “Digitization for Economic Empowerment in a Fast-Growing World” conference in Aqaba, organized by the Entrepreneurship Center in cooperation with the Arabia Center for Entrepreneurship and Empowerment.

The conference seeks to explore pathways toward economic empowerment and the promotion of entrepreneurship amid accelerating digital transformation. It features participation from prominent entrepreneurs, business figures, and experts from across the Arab region, and presents successful experiences and inspiring models.

In his opening remarks, Fayez underlined the significant progress Jordanian women have made in recent years across economic, social, and political spheres, a development supported by His Majesty King Abdullah II’s commitment to strengthening women’s roles in society. He said Jordanian women have become key partners in sustainable development and have proven their capabilities by holding frontline and leadership positions in diverse sectors.

Fayez pointed to ongoing royal efforts to review legislation that upholds women’s rights and ensures their dignity, thereby reinforcing their participation in both civilian and military institutions. He noted that laws governing municipalities, parliamentary elections, and decentralization provide quotas and incentives that have strengthened women’s presence in political and socio-economic domains. Jordanian women now serve as ministers, judges, ambassadors, senators, representatives, officers, and leaders in both regional and international organizations.

Addressing the broader Arab context, Fayez acknowledged that despite progress, women’s political and economic engagement remains limited, particularly in conflict-affected countries, where instability has further marginalized their roles.

He also spoke about the transformation of Aqaba, praising efforts led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to develop the coastal city into a prosperous and future-ready hub.

Fayez emphasized that digital transformation is no longer optional but a necessity for economic and social advancement. He highlighted the role of digitization in empowering women economically by easing access to technology, facilitating online entrepreneurship, and enabling work beyond traditional barriers like geography and societal constraints. He stressed the need for investment in digital infrastructure, technical education, and policies that ensure equal access to opportunities.

He affirmed that empowering women is vital to building a stronger society, noting that no nation can achieve comprehensive development without inclusive participation and decision-making by women.

Rania Haddadin, Director of the Entrepreneurship Center, said digital media and government communication are central to supporting the national narrative and promoting women’s economic empowerment. She noted that in today’s rapidly evolving environment, effective digital communication tools are essential to keeping pace with Jordan’s digital transformation and governance goals.

The event featured multiple sessions on women’s entrepreneurship and the role of institutions and sectors in supporting female participation. It also offered networking opportunities for female entrepreneurs from various Arab countries.
