Amman, Aug. 18 (Petra) –The Senate on Tuesday approved the draft law
repealing the Civil Service Consumer Corporation Law, as passed by
the House of Representatives.

The session was chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez and attended
by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and members of the Cabinet.

The Senate recommended that the government preserve the rights of
employees of the Civil Service Consumer Corporation in accordance
with the relevant labor legislation and ensure that their interests
are protected.

The Senate also returned the draft Vocational Work Regulation Law to
the House of Representatives after introducing several amendments.

Under the amendments, people with professional experience acquired
before the law takes effect would be eligible to obtain professional
practice licenses without sitting for examinations, according to
criteria to be set out in regulations issued for this purpose.

The amendments also provide for recognizing officially certified
professional experience gained in other countries, rather than
requiring a foreign professional practice license, when considering
applications for professional practice licenses.

The Senate further reduced the fine for workers practicing a
profession without a license to between JD 50 and JD 200.

Owners of establishments employing unlicensed workers, as well as
training service providers that violate the law, would face fines
ranging from JD 200 to JD 500.

These penalties would apply without affecting any more severe
penalties provided for under other legislation.

The draft law, in the version submitted by the government and
approved by the House of Representatives, had set fines of between JD
200 and JD 1,000 for violations of the law and regulations issued
under it, in addition to requiring the violation to be remedied.
