Sennar, June 16, 2026 (SUNA) — The International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in Sennar State held a coordination meeting on Tuesday with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to review the progress of an integrated social infrastructure project covering the water, health, and technical education sectors.  The Director of the International Cooperation Department, Khalid Sayid, said that work is progressing well within the framework of the partnership with IOM, noting the state government’s commitment to supporting this cooperation to complete development infrastructure projects and enhance basic services. He added that the state is seeking to expand cooperation with several international organisations to support development across different localities, particularly in vocational training and agro-industrial sectors. For his part, IOM Project Coordinator in Sennar State, Omar Atem, said the organization’s interventions focus on three main sectors—water, health, and education—explaining that the total cost of the projects is estimated at around USD 15 million, to be implemented over two years. He noted that field visits to target sites had contributed to the completion of technical studies, particularly in the health sector, through the rehabilitation and upgrading of several hospitals aimed at improving service delivery and building the capacity of health personnel. In the same context, the civil engineer at the project, Mohamed Abdelrahman, said that bills of quantities and technical studies have been completed, adding that visits were conducted to several targeted hospitals, including Singa, Sennar, Duba, Wad Al-Nayal, and Jabal Moya. He said vulnerable areas were identified and follow-up committees formed from relevant authorities to ensure implementation and address challenges. Omar Atem praised the level of coordination and cooperation between IOM and the Sennar State Ministry of Finance, represented by the International Cooperation Department, reaffirming the continuation of work on water sector studies and the development of necessary plans to ensure implementation according to the highest quality standards. He also commended the efforts of the Sennar State Government in overcoming the impacts of war and working toward recovery and the restoration of development and basic services.BH/BH
