Amman, May 20 (Petra) – The Amman-based Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) has decided to declare September 21 annually as the “Arab Renewable Energy Day,” aimed to launch initiatives and showcase achievements and innovations, as well as completed and planned projects for the coming years.
The announcement came during the preparatory meeting of the 10th Arab Renewable Energy Forum, which will be held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, from November 3-5 that was recently held at the AREC’s headquarters in Amman.
In a press statement on Tuesday, the AREC said the announcement of this annual activity aims to demonstrate Arab interest at the public and private levels, as well as at civil society institutions in Arab countries.
The AREC added that “comprehensive” guidelines to renewable energy in the Arab world will be released during this year’s celebration of Arab Renewable Energy Day.
The AREC Secretary-General, Mohammed Taani, said the commission is a “true partner in achieving sustainable development for all and contributes daily to increasing reliance on renewable energy to achieve self-sufficiency, self-generation, and connectivity with all countries across the world.”
At the local level, Taani stated the AREC praised Jordan’s experience in renewable energy and energy-centered storage to achieve self-generation and security at the individual and institutional levels.
This effort is reflected in the new energy law, which encourages investment in Jordan by reducing electricity bills by achieving “greater” reliance on self-generation and energy storage, particularly under independent power systems of less than a megawatt, he pointed out.
Scheduled to he held from June 23-25, Taani noted the AREC will hold the 5th Arab Renewable Energy Dialogue Workshop in Amman, under the theme: “Energy Storage, Electric Vehicles, Infrastructure, and Smart Grids among Arab Countries.”
