Port Sudan, May 20, 2026 (SUNA) – The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) reaffirmed its commitment to the directives of the “Hope Government” aimed at advancing the country and easing burdens on citizens, describing metrology as a key technical tool for ensuring fair transactions and quality services. Speaking on the occasion of World Metrology Day, observed annually on May 20 under the theme “Metrology for Trust in Policy Making,” Director-General Rahba Saeed Abdullah said economic recovery policies require a precise metrology system capable of building confidence during the reconstruction phase. She stressed that the organization had accelerated efforts to rehabilitate metrology laboratories and gold hallmarking units despite extensive infrastructure losses during the war, describing metrology as “the system of life” and a safeguard for protecting citizens’ savings. Rahba said Sudan would continue to play an active role in international metrology organizations and advance its transition toward the metric system in line with global developments and international trade requirements. She also praised national experts, measurement officers, and partners, affirming that the authority is working in line with national recovery goals to support economic recovery and promote a transparent and fair commercial environment.BH/BH
