State Minister of Finance Discusses Sudan’s Reduced Contribution and Recovery Support with ICGLR

KHARTOUM, June 9, 2026 (SUNA) — The State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel Dayem, met on Monday in Khartoum with a delegation from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), led by Mr. Mugereza Bongorori Ham. The meeting discussed a range of issues, including the possibility of reducing Sudan’s annual financial contribution to the organization in light of the country’s economic conditions, as well as strengthening cooperation and supporting economic reform and reconstruction efforts. The State Minister outlined the severe direct and indirect impacts of the war on Sudan, particularly on infrastructure, which has significantly affected the national economy. He reviewed government efforts to rehabilitate heavily damaged sectors, including electricity, water, roads, and bridges, and welcomed the ICGLR’s willingness to support recovery and reconstruction initiatives, commending the organization’s engagement. The ICGLR delegation briefed the Minister on the objectives of its mission, including field visits to assess conditions in affected areas and explore avenues for support.
