Seals Vital Arsenal Win in Title Chase
London, 14 Dec 2025 (ONA) — A
chaotic and heart-stopping finale at the Emirates Stadium saw English Premier
League (EPL) leaders Arsenal snatch a 2-1 victory over bottom-side
Wolverhampton Wanderers, courtesy of a 94th-minute Yerson Mosquera own goal.
Mikel Arteta’s side, frequently
stifled by Wolves’ resolute five-man defense, broke the deadlock in fortuitous
fashion in the 70th minute. Bukayo Saka’s inswinging corner was paried onto the
post by goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, only for the ball to rebound off the keeper’s
back and trickle over the line.
Rather than kill the game, the goal
invited pressure. Arsenal grew nervy, and Wolves capitalized in the 90th
minute. A late flurry of crosses was finally converted when Mateus Cunha found
Tolu Arokodare, who powered home a header to seemingly snatch a point for the
visitors.
Just as despair set in for the home
support, Arsenal delivered a final, dramatic twist. In the fourth minute of
added time, Saka again cut in from the right and curled a dangerous cross
toward substitute Gabriel Jesus. Under pressure, defender Yerson Mosquera could
only divert his attempted clearance past his own goalkeeper, sparking scenes of
relief and jubilation in North London.
The victory was marred by a
first-half hamstring injury to defender Ben White, casting a shadow ahead of a
demanding schedule. Nevertheless, the three points extend Arsenal’s lead over
Manchester City to five, solidifying their position at the summit ahead of a
challenging away fixture at Everton next weekend.
