Study Highlights Importance of Sudan’s Leather Sector

Khartoum, April 9, 2026 (SUNA) – A research paper on Sudan’s leather sector highlighted its importance to the national economy, noting the country’s vast livestock resources. Estimates indicate Sudan has about 112 million head of livestock, making it one of the region’s leading producers. Despite annual revenues reaching up to $35 million in some years, the sector suffers from significant losses due to poor handling and processing. The paper called for comprehensive development across the value chain—from slaughtering and preservation to manufacturing and export—to fully realize the sector’s economic potential.BH/BH
