Geneva, May 19, 2026 (SUNA) – On the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, the Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met with Pakistan’s Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Dr. Syed Mustafa Kamal. The two sides discussed strengthening health cooperation in light of prior engagements, including a recent visit by a Sudanese health delegation to Pakistan in December, which included meetings with senior health officials. Talks focused on finalizing memoranda of understanding covering medical training and exchange of expertise, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and medical tourism, in addition to an agreement between National Medicines and Poisons Board (NMPB) and Pakistan’s drug regulatory authority. They also discussed activating a previously signed agreement on medical specialties cooperation. The minister reviewed the country’s current health situation and efforts to rebuild the health system following the recent gains by the armed forces and the return of stability to Khartoum, praising the resilience of Sudanese health workers. For his part, the Pakistani minister reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Sudan’s health sector and its readiness to contribute to service development and implementation of agreements, calling for greater use of Pakistan’s expertise in medical education. Both sides agreed to form a joint technical committee to follow up on implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation.BH/BH
