Khartoum, April 19, 2026 (SUNA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a joint statement with the foreign ministers of several Arab and Islamic countries condemning in the strongest terms Israel’s announcement of the appointment of a diplomatic envoy to the so-called “Somaliland,” describing it as a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and its territorial unity and integrity. The statement read: “The foreign ministers of the Republic of Sudan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the State of Libya, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Türkiye, and the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemn Israel’s announcement of appointing a diplomatic envoy to the so-called ‘Somaliland,’ considering it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and its unity and territorial integrity.” The ministers affirmed their categorical rejection of all unilateral measures that undermine the unity of states or infringe upon their sovereignty, stressing their firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as their support for the legitimate Somali state institutions as the sole legitimate representatives of the will of the Somali people. They further emphasized that such actions constitute a clear violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, warning that they represent a dangerous precedent that could undermine stability in the Horn of Africa and negatively impact regional peace and security as a whole.BH/BH
