Accra, April 16, 2026 (SUNA) — Sudan participated in the African regional workshop on strengthening the protection of civilians from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, held in Accra, Republic of Ghana, on April 14–15, 2026, with the participation of several African states as well as international and regional organizations. The workshop underscored the importance of adopting practical approaches to mitigate the humanitarian harm resulting from the use of such weapons, enhance the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and reinforce regional cooperation in this field. During the proceedings, Sudan’s representative, Mustafa Abu Ali, delivered a presentation addressing the humanitarian situation in Sudan and the challenges arising from the war. He pointed to the grave consequences of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, including significant human casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure and essential services.Sudan also outlined its vision for strengthening the protection of civilians, including supporting state institutions, combating armed groups, preventing the flow of weapons to non-regular actors, and reinforcing the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions, in a manner that contributes to achieving stability and reducing humanitarian crises in Africa.BH/BH
