Sudan–Türkiye Joint Economic Committee Concludes in Ankara

Ankara, May 22, 2026 (SUNA) – The 16th session of the Sudan–Türkiye Joint Economic Committee concluded in Ankara on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The committee is held periodically under the agreements on trade and economic and technical cooperation between the two countries. The Sudanese side was chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Prof. Ismat Gurashi, while the Turkish side was chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı.  The two sides signed the final minutes of the meeting after intensive deliberations by the technical committee, which included Sudanese institutions such as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Agriculture, Energy, Mining, Animal Resources, Higher Education, Culture and Information, Tourism, and the Central Bank of Sudan. The meetings resulted in a range of outcomes aimed at strengthening cooperation in economic, trade, and development issues. Both sides agreed to implement several projects in agriculture, energy, and mining, in addition to technical cooperation and capacity-building based on existing memoranda of understanding. They also agreed to enhance Turkish support for the health and humanitarian sectors and contribute to the reconstruction of war-affected areas in Sudan. The two sides emphasized the importance of private sector participation in strengthening trade relations through joint business and investment forums under the Joint Business Council. In closing remarks, both sides described the relationship as strategic, paving the way for broader partnerships, particularly in economic and trade fields. Prof. Ismat Gurashi expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Türkiye’s support during the war period and the commitment to implementing agreed projects. The Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry stressed the need for immediate implementation of projects and increasing trade balance in line with his country’s plan, underscoring the importance of economic relations in strengthening bilateral ties.BH/BH
