Khartoum, June 16, 2026 (SUNA) — Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has welcomed the conclusion of a framework peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry expressed hope that the agreement would mark an important step toward strengthening security and stability in the region and contribute to advancing the principles of peace, development, and prosperity for the benefit of the Middle East and the wider international community. The ministry also commended the efforts of friendly and brotherly countries that helped create favorable conditions for reaching the agreement, particularly the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the State of Qatar, as well as other parties that played constructive roles in bridging differences and supporting peaceful settlement efforts. The statement affirmed that the success of these efforts would contribute to easing regional tensions and enhancing the security and stability of international maritime routes, serving the interests of the peoples of the region and the world at large.BH/BH
