Sudan, WHO Sign 2026–2027 Joint Plan to Strengthen Health System

Port Sudan, 30 January 2026 (SUNA) — Federal Minister of Health Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim met with Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Sudan Dr. Shibley Sahbani, during which the two sides discussed WHO interventions in support of Sudan’s health sector. The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint plan between the Ministry of Health and WHO for 2026–2027.The Minister welcomed the partnership with the World Health Organization, affirming that the plan encompasses multiple pillars aimed at strengthening the national health system. He commended the organization’s technical and logistical support at regional and global levels and expressed appreciation to the teams involved in preparing the plan.For his part, Dr. Sahbani said the partnership includes cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the implementation of several development projects. He noted that the agreement spans two years and seeks to build a robust health system capable of meeting the needs of Sudanese citizens. He also thanked the Federal Minister of Health and the WHO Sudan office for their efforts in responding to the country’s health requirements.The meeting further addressed arrangements for Sudan’s participation in the upcoming World Health Organization meeting scheduled for May 2026, with the Minister reiterating his appreciation for WHO’s sustained support of health projects and the provision of ongoing technical assistance.AS/BH
