The Sudanese Government on Friday issued a statement expressing its condolences and solidarity with the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and its people over the victims of a fire that broke out at an orphanage in the capital, Algiers, killing and injuring a number of children and staff.The statement opened with the Quranic verse: “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” The Government said: “The Government and people of the Republic of Sudan extend their deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims of the tragic fire that broke out at an orphanage in the Algerian capital, claiming the lives of a number of children and staff and injuring others.As the Government and people of Sudan share the grief and sorrow of the Government and people of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria over this painful tragedy, they express their full solidarity with Algeria in this humanitarian disaster. They pray that Almighty Allah grant the victims His vast mercy and forgiveness and admit them into His eternal Paradise, bless the injured with a speedy recovery, and grant the victims’ families and the brotherly Algerian people patience and solace.”The Government of the Republic of Sudan also expressed its hope that Algeria would overcome the effects of this tragedy and prayed that Allah protect Algeria and its people from all harm.BH/BH
