Tokyo, Aug. 14, 2026 (SUNA) – Sudan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan, Al-Rayah Haidoub, received on Thursday at the Sudanese Embassy in Tokyo a high-level delegation from the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI), headed by Masashi Mochizuki, Member of the Board and Co-Chief Executive Officer, in the presence of Second Secretary of the Mission Basmala Montaser.The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and mechanisms for providing insurance coverage for Japanese projects and investments in Sudan, as well as reviewing the company’s risk classifications and applicable insurance terms, as part of efforts to promote economic cooperation and contribute to the reconstruction of infrastructure in Sudan.The NEXI delegation gave a detailed presentation covering the company’s insurance products, country risk assessment mechanisms and the terms of coverage applicable to Sudan. The delegation also expressed the company’s interest in monitoring available business opportunities and coordinating and exchanging economic and security information with the Embassy to support Japanese investments seeking to operate in Sudan during the coming period.For his part, Ambassador Al-Rayah Haidoub welcomed the delegation and expressed the Sudanese government and people’s appreciation for Japan’s continued support. He affirmed that Sudan is witnessing intensive efforts to rehabilitate its infrastructure, making the country a promising investment market. He also pointed to the readiness of facilities on the ground and the resumption of operations at Khartoum International Airport.The Ambassador affirmed the Embassy’s keenness to provide all necessary facilitation and maintain direct coordination to provide the information required to facilitate insurance and financing procedures for commercial and development projects.At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of maintaining direct coordination and consultation to follow up on insurance coverage and debt repayment issues, in a manner that strengthens bilateral economic relations and supports development and stability efforts in Sudan.BH/BH
