Sudan’s Ambassador to Vienna Meets UNIDO Chief on Industrial Recovery

Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna, Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, met with the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Mr. Gerd Müller, to discuss ways of supporting Sudan’s industrial recovery programme. The ambassador underscored the importance of intensifying the organisation’s efforts to contribute to the preparation and implementation of industrial recovery programmes, build the capacities of national and state institutions, and support quick-impact projects, particularly in the areas of cold storage for agricultural exports and meat processing. He also referred to preparations for the high-level meeting on industrial recovery programmes for Sudan, Syria and the State of Palestine, scheduled to be held in Cairo in September 2026. He further called for strengthening international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Sudan, ending the humanitarian crisis, and supporting the humanitarian-development nexus in a manner that enables returnees from displacement and refuge to resume their economic activities. For his part, the UNIDO Director-General expressed hope that the upcoming meetings would help mobilise the funding and investments required to support industrial recovery programmes and achieve practical outcomes that contribute to rebuilding the productive sectors in the targeted countries.BH/BH
