The Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami, received in Jeddah the Assistant Chairman of Sudan’s National Human Rights Commission and Head of its Department of International Cooperation and Capacity Building, Dr. Bashir Mohamed Bashir. The meeting was held as part of efforts to support the National Human Rights Commission and strengthen its capacity to carry out its mandate amid current challenges. The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in areas of mutual interest, including institutional development, expertise exchange, joint programs and initiatives, particularly capacity building and training, as well as promoting human rights awareness. They also discussed preparing studies and reports, strengthening monitoring and documentation mechanisms, international cooperation, and benefiting from best practices in line with the Commission’s 2026–2030 Strategic Framework. Dr. Bashir expressed appreciation for the growing role of the OIC human rights body as the organization’s specialized human rights institution. He affirmed the National Human Rights Commission’s interest in benefiting from its expertise and strengthening cooperation with it to enhance the Commission’s institutional and technical capabilities. The two sides agreed to maintain coordination and prepare a memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlining areas of cooperation, in addition to exchanging visits and expertise and implementing joint programs and initiatives aimed at consolidating the partnership and strengthening human rights protection.BH/BH
