Damascus, August 12 (QNA) – Syria on Wednesday submitted an official letter to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General and UN Security Council President, expressing its protest, condemnation, and categorical rejection of Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan.
In its letter, Damascus affirmed that the Golan is an integral part of Syrian territory and that Colombia’s stance constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions, noting that this recognition is null and void and without international legal effect.
Syria’s letter to the UN came in conjunction with the country’s position as expressed by its Foreign Ministry, condemning Colombia’s recognition and calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, and Jordan, along with the Gulf Cooperation Council, have also condemned Colombia’s recognition, reaffirming their rejection of any attempt to alter the legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. (QNA)
