Syria welcomes U.S. decision to ease longstanding sanctions

Amman, May 24 (Petra) – Syria on Saturday welcomed a decision by the U.S. government to lift certain long-imposed sanctions, describing the move as an exemption from mandatory sanctions and a step toward alleviating humanitarian and economic hardships.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement that Damascus views the decision as a positive development in the right direction.

The ministry reiterated Syria’s willingness to cooperate with any party based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. It affirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means to establish balanced relations that serve the interests of peoples and promote security and stability in the region.
