TAFILAH, Aug. 8 (Petra) — The first in a series of specialized
training workshops for civil society organizations kicked off in
Tafilah Governorate on Saturday under the project “Building Climate
Change Resilience in Jordan by Improving Water Use Efficiency in the
Agricultural Sector,” implemented by the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The initiative aims to bolster civil society participation in climate
adaptation efforts and support sustainable water resource management
within local agriculture.

Organized by the Sustainable Scientific Vision for Engineering and
Environment Company in collaboration with the FAO and the Jordanian
National Commission for Women (JNCW) in Tafilah, the workshop brought
together representatives from various civil society organizations.

During the sessions, project organizers outlined core objectives
focused on enhancing agricultural water use efficiency, promoting
climate-smart farming practices, and strengthening the capacity of
local communities and civil society organizations to address
escalating climate change impacts.

FAO Policy and Education Expert Dr. Samia Akroush reviewed the
project’s primary pillars and its strategic role in modernizing
agricultural water utilization.

Dr. Kawthar Al-Shobatat, Tafilah coordinator for the JNCW and project
coordinator, noted that the workshops are designed to equip civil
society groups with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive local
awareness regarding climate change and its toll on productive
sectors.

Participants engaged in theoretical and practical training covering
climate change dynamics, agricultural adaptation strategies,
sustainable water management, rainwater harvesting, climate-smart
agriculture, and community outreach skills to support grassroots
environmental initiatives.

The workshops build upon prior consultation sessions conducted across
Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Maan, which mapped local community needs
and priorities concerning water security and climate resilience.

The overarching project aligns with national priorities for water and
food security by deploying sustainable technological solutions to
safeguard Jordan’s vital water resources.
