Amman, Aug. 10 (Petra) — The overall pass rate in the General
Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) examination reached 65.3%,
Director of the Ministry of Education’s Examinations and Tests
Department Mohammad Shehadeh said on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference held by the ministry at the Queen
Rania Al Abdullah Centre for Information Technology to announce the
results of the 2026 general examination, Shehadeh said 196,050
students had registered for the exam, of whom 178,296 sat the tests,
and 116,366 passed.

Among regular students, 140,985 were registered in the academic,
vocational, and technical education tracks, of whom 134,126 sat the
examination. A total of 90,326 passed, representing an overall pass
rate of 67.3%.

Students taking the examination through private study numbered
55,065, of whom 44,170 sat the tests. A total of 26,040 passed,
giving an overall pass rate of 59%.

Shehadeh said this year’s Tawjihi examination was particularly
significant as it marked the graduation of the first cohort of
students under the new secondary education system, which distributes
the academic workload over two years, giving students greater
opportunities to learn and prepare.

“As we announce the results of this session, we are seeing positive
indicators of the impact of this development,” he said, adding that
pass rates had improved markedly to their highest level ever recorded
in Tawjihi examinations.

The distribution of grades also showed an increase in overall grade
levels not seen during the past five years, he added.

Another important milestone this year, Shehadeh said, was the
graduation of the first cohort of students in the vocational and
technical track, who enrolled in the program for the first time in
the 2023/2024 academic year across six specializations.

The track aims to equip students with skills needed by the labor
market and provide it with a skilled and qualified workforce. It has
attracted growing numbers of students to its specializations.

In the next academic year, the track will expand to 14
specializations, providing students with broader options and further
aligning educational outcomes with labor market needs.
