Amman, Sept. 3 (Petra) — Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin and
Social Security Corporation Director General Hazim Rahahleh discussed
on Thursday expanding social security coverage to ride-hail drivers
to boost social protection and safeguard workers’ rights under
national regulations.

Qatamin stressed the importance of providing social security coverage
for workers in app-based transportation services, describing them as
a vital component of the Kingdom’s modern transportation system. He
called for creating a framework that accounts for gig work while
ensuring adequate social protection for workers.

In a separate meeting with Madhu Kannan, Uber’s Chief Business
Officer, Qatamin and Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director
General Riyad Kharabsheh reviewed mechanisms to enroll Uber drivers
in the social security system.

Uber voiced its commitment to exploring viable frameworks with
regulators to enhance social safety nets for gig workers and support
sector modernization.
