Washington, May 29 (QNA) – US President Donald Trump said on Friday the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened immediately to unrestricted maritime traffic without transit fees.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said no financial exchanges would take place “until further notice” and indicated he would make a final decision on Friday regarding an agreement with Iran to extend the current ceasefire.

He also reiterated that Iran “must accept” it will never possess a nuclear weapon.

Trump said the naval blockade on Iran would be lifted and that vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz could begin returning home.

The US president further stated that the United States would remove uranium from Iran and that all naval mines in the waterway would either be removed or destroyed.

He said US forces had already cleared several mines, while Iran would complete operations on the remaining devices.

Reports have suggested that Washington and Tehran are close to agreeing a 60-day extension of the truce in place since early April, aimed at allowing oil and gas shipments to resume through the strategic waterway. (QNA)
