Ankara, August 14 (QNA) – The Turkish Directorate General for Maritime Affairs announced that a Turkish-flagged vessel had rescued 48 Sudanese migrants stranded in the Mediterranean Sea off the Greek island of Crete.
In a post on X today, the directorate said the vessel Donau Express II rescued the irregular migrants about 50 nautical miles south of Crete.
It said the vessel’s crew found the migrants at sea after they had spent around three days there, with their lives at risk due to poor weather conditions.
The directorate added that the crew safely brought the migrants aboard the vessel. Among those rescued were a woman and two children, and they were subsequently handed over to the Greek Coast Guard. (QNA)
