Two Drug Smuggling Attempts Foiled at Eastern Border

Amman, Aug. 11 (Petra) — Two attempts to smuggle large quantities of
narcotics into the Kingdom using guided balloons were foiled along
the eastern border early Tuesday, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army
said.

Border Guard units operating within the Eastern Military Region
detected the balloons and intercepted them after they crossed into
Jordanian territory, seizing their cargo in coordination with
military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The seized narcotics were referred to the competent authorities for
further action.

The Armed Forces said the two operations underscore the Border Guard
units’ ability to detect and thwart smuggling attempts and respond
swiftly to methods employed by trafficking networks, helping secure
the border against the flow of narcotics into the Kingdom.

It reaffirmed that the Kingdom’s borders will remain protected
against attempts to breach or exploit them for smuggling, stressing
that any activity threatening Jordan’s security or territorial
integrity will be met with firm action.
