London, July 27 (QNA) – UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham ruled out holding an early general election.
In an interview with the BBC, Burnham said there would be no general election before 2029, adding that more than 20 million people had voted for Labour’s election manifesto under the UK’s parliamentary democratic system and that his government intended to honor that mandate.
He reiterated that his government would remain committed to implementing the Labour Party’s election manifesto and again ruled out calling an early general election.
The UK Prime Minister said he was seeking to build a new political approach aimed at moving beyond divisions, arguing that such an approach is in the country’s best interests.
Burnham, who took office about a week ago following former Prime Minister Keir Starmer, said he was pleased with the government’s start and called on the country to look ahead together and work to put Britain back on the right track. (QNA)
