Amman, August 19 (Petra) – The UN revealed on Tuesday that Israel has been preventing the entry of tents into the Gaza Strip for several months, despite ongoing evacuation orders for civilians, particularly in Gaza City, amid the devastating war and blockade.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated during a press briefing in Geneva that for the past five months, Israel has blocked the `delivery of tents to the Palestinian enclave, where more than 700,000 people have been displaced multiple times.
Laerke explained, “What often happens is that people are forced to leave their tents behind. They may have been provided with tents initially, but when displaced again, they have no opportunity to take their tents with them. This cycle of repeated displacement continues without adequate shelter.”
