New York, July 15 (Petra) – The UN Human Rights Office said Tuesday that more than 875 people have been killed in Gaza while trying to obtain food, including 674 who died near the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” sites.
The office added that the remaining 201 were killed while searching for food “on or near aid convoy routes” operated by the United Nations or its humanitarian partners still active in the war-torn enclave.
Separately, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that the growing number of children requiring therapeutic nutrition is threatening to overwhelm Gaza’s already devastated health system. Malnutrition rates have continued to rise since the blockade was tightened four months ago.
Juliette Touma, UNRWA’s Director of Communications, said that one in every ten children under the age of five screened by UNRWA health teams since January 2024 is suffering from malnutrition, out of a total of 240,000 children examined.
