New York, August 14 (QNA) – The United Nations warned that more than 650,000 refugees and asylum seekers in South Sudan could lose access to vital assistance, including food and nutrition services, due to severe funding shortages.
UNHCR and the World Food Program said that without urgent funding, the final food aid distribution for 240,000 of the most vulnerable refugees will take place in September, cutting off a lifeline for hundreds of thousands already facing harsh conditions.
The agencies warned of rising malnutrition and increased risks of exploitation and abuse, particularly among women and children.
They also expressed concern over increased cross-border movements, noting that around 3,000 refugees and returnees arrive from Sudan each week. (QNA)
