Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Meets Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

 Moscow, June 23, 2026 (SUNA) — The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, on Tuesday met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Organizations, Alexander Alimov, at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow, as part of his working visit to hold meetings of the Sudan-Russia Political Consultation Committee. The two sides exchanged congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Russia. Ambassador Muawiya expressed appreciation for the constructive cooperation and continuous coordination between the two countries in international forums, particularly between their missions in New York and Geneva. He also thanked Russia for supporting the inclusion of members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the United Nations Security Council’s consolidated sanctions list. The Undersecretary further expressed Sudan’s satisfaction with the level of coordination and mutual support between the two countries, including reciprocal backing for candidates in international organisations. For his part, Alimov praised the level of coordination between Sudan and Russia in international forums and reaffirmed Russia’s steadfast support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that Russia would not hesitate to oppose any attempts to interfere in Sudan’s internal affairs or undermine the sovereignty, legitimacy of state institutions, and national interests of Sudan. He also expressed Russia’s rejection of the establishment of any parallel entities. The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia, with particular emphasis on international and regional issues of mutual interest and cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, especially coordination in international forums.BH/BH
