New York, July 29 (QNA) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) confirmed that at least 23 children have been killed and 25 others injured in North Kordofan, western Sudan, since the conflict around the city of Al Obeid escalated in the past two months.
Reports indicated that at least four children were recently killed in the Burbur area south of Al Obeid, bringing the total number of children killed or injured this month to at least eight, UNICEF explained in a statement.
“Four more children have lost their lives in a conflict that continues to put children and their families in grave danger,” UNICEF Representative for Sudan Sheldon Yett said. “Behind every number is a child whose life has been cut short and a family whose future has been altered forever. Children continue to be the victims of this conflict. Their safety, their rights and the services they depend on must be protected.”
Across Sudan, 330 children were reportedly killed or injured during the first six months of 2026, UNICEF reported. It stressed that ongoing violence, repeated displacement and damage to civilian infrastructure are putting children’s lives, wellbeing and future at risk. (QNA)
