Amman, April 2 (Petra) — The University of Jordan Hospital said Thursday that a resident physician who fell from one of the hospital floors is currently in stable condition.
In a statement, the hospital administration said it had taken proactive measures after the head of the relevant department observed notable changes in the physician’s health and behavior approximately two weeks before the incident. The physician, a recent graduate of a British university, had joined the hospital’s residency program only a few months earlier.
The administration noted that immediate steps were taken upon identifying these concerns, including notifying the physician’s family. The physician’s father indicated that his son had been undergoing medical treatment outside the hospital and was taking prescribed medication prior to joining the residency program.
According to the statement, the hospital granted the physician sick leave and temporarily suspended him from duties, pending the submission of a certified medical report confirming fitness to resume work.
The hospital added that the physician had requested to return to duty on Tuesday, March 31, but the request was declined due to the absence of the required medical clearance.
Despite the suspension, the physician entered the hospital premises early Thursday without prior coordination. Surveillance footage documented the incident, the statement said.
The hospital underscored its commitment to transparency, noting that its administration remains available to respond to media inquiries and provide verified information. It also called for accuracy and reliance on official sources when reporting on the case.
The hospital community expressed solidarity with the physician and their family, wishing him a speedy recovery.
