Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) – The University of Jordan has achieved a notable milestone in the February 2025 edition of the Webometrics global ranking, securing the 8th spot in the Arab world and 1st locally. It also ranked among the top 2% of universities worldwide.
The results show a significant improvement for the university, which advanced 49 positions globally, marking the largest leap among the top 10 Arab universities in the ranking. This achievement is the best in the university’s history within this classification.
A statement from the university on Tuesday highlighted that the Webometrics ranking is one of the largest university rankings globally, covering over 31,000 educational institutions from more than 200 countries. The ranking is issued biannually, in February and August.
The ranking is based on three key indicators:
1. Research Impact, which measures the quality and influence of published research through citation numbers.
2. Researcher Impact, focusing on researchers’ performance based on citations in Google Scholar.
3. Website Impact, reflecting the university’s online presence and the accessibility of its academic and service-related information to the public.
The Webometrics ranking, first published in 2004, is produced by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council. It serves as a significant indicator for assessing university performance both regionally and globally.
