Amman, July 17 (Petra) — Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maaytah, said Thursday that public satisfaction with the electoral process has increased from 35 percent to 60 percent, reflecting growing voter confidence in elections.

Speaking at the launch of a public opinion poll conducted by Namaa Center on women’s political participation in the 2024 parliamentary elections and the impact of new legislation, Maaytah noted a significant drop in the number of citizens who believe elections do not represent the will of the people from 47 percent to 22 percent.

The event, held in cooperation with UN Women and the IEC, highlighted that electoral legitimacy stems from citizens’ belief in the process and their sense that their vote makes a difference. Maaytah emphasized the importance of the trust the IEC has gained from the public.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to upholding the law as the foundation of democracy and stated that political party work is legitimate and goals must be pursued through peaceful means only.

Maaytah also pointed to the IEC’s role in promoting political participation and advancing party life to ensure broad representation across society. He stressed that the Commission operates in accordance with the constitution and law and aims to empower all political groups while upholding the rule of law.
