Khartoum, June 23, 2026 (SUNA) — The Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman Hamza, has commended the “honourable positions” of the Turkish government and people in supporting Sudan, affirming that Türkiye has consistently backed the choices of the Sudanese people and supported their just causes amid the challenges of war. This came during his meeting on Tuesday in his office with a delegation from the Turkish think tank SETA Foundation, headed by Tunç Demirtaş, Africa Coordinator at the centre.  The Wali briefed the delegation on the extensive destruction inflicted on infrastructure and public service institutions due to attacks by the “rebel militia,” noting that the State Government has prioritised reconstruction and restoration of basic services. He said the “Government of Hope” has already begun implementing emergency and strategic programmes to restore normal life in the capital, adding that recent efforts have contributed to notable progress in service restoration and in facilitating the return of citizens to liberated and secured areas. Hamza affirmed that the resilience of the Sudanese people and their support for the armed forces had helped thwart attempts targeting the country’s unity and stability, adding that the armed forces continue to achieve gains across various fronts, which has improved security conditions and accelerated recovery efforts. He said approximately 7 million citizens have returned to their areas in several states. For his part, Tunç Demirtaş praised Türkiye’s efforts in supporting reconstruction and highlighted that the gradual return of life and services in Khartoum reflects the resilience and determination of the Sudanese people in overcoming the consequences of war. He said the delegation’s observations confirmed that Sudanese citizens are steadily moving toward restoring stability and rebuilding institutions despite the scale of destruction, stressing that national will and determination form the foundation for recovery and reconstruction. Demirtaş added that the visit aimed to express solidarity with the Sudanese people during this critical stage and to highlight violations and abuses of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians to international institutions and global public opinion, while supporting efforts to achieve security, stability, and reconstruction.
