Amman, Aug. 24 (Petra) — Jordan met its annual target for reducing
non-revenue water (NRW) loss to 10.7 percentage points from 2022,
reaching 41 percent nationwide, Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed
Abu Saud said on Monday.

The water loss cut exceeded the government’s annual target of two
percentage points, and marked further progress toward the national
goal of lowering water losses to 25 percent by 2040 under the
National Water Strategy, the ministry said in a press release.

Speaking at an event attended by representatives of the U.S.
government, Ministry of Water and Irrigation Secretary General Jihad
Mahamid, Water Authority Secretary General Sufian Bataineh, and chief
executives of Miyahuna, Aqaba Water, and Yarmouk Water companies, Abu
Saud announced that Jordan had met its water-loss reduction targets
for the fourth consecutive year.

He said that reducing losses contributes to improving long-term water
security, indicating that progress on NRW is also important for
securing support needed to implement the National Water Carrier
Project.

Abu Saud commended ministry and water sector staff for their work and
acknowledged continued support from the U.S. government,
international institutions, and other partners in the sector.
