WFP Says Aid Convoy Attacked in Northern Gaza, Casualties Reported

Amman, July 20 (Petra) – A humanitarian aid convoy of 25 trucks came under fire after crossing the Zikim border crossing into northern Gaza, where food insecurity is at its most extreme, the World Food Programme (WFP) said on Sunday.

In a statement posted on its official account on X, the WFP reported that the shooting occurred as large crowds of civilians approached the convoy in desperation to obtain food. The incident resulted in deaths and injuries.

The agency reiterated that violence targeting civilians seeking humanitarian assistance is “unacceptable,” and called for the protection of both civilians and humanitarian workers delivering life-saving aid.

The WFP noted that one in every three people in Gaza goes days without food, while thousands face catastrophic levels of hunger.
