Amman, May 26 (Petra) – A senior official from the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed regret on Monday that none of the organization’s trucks have been able to enter the Gaza Strip, despite the start of humanitarian aid deliveries after more than two months of Israeli blockade.

According to AFP, Hanan Balkhi, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said at a press conference in Geneva today, “No trucks have entered Gaza to deliver medical aid for more than 11 weeks.”
She added, “The situation is catastrophic. We are not only concerned about the immediate work we hope to continue supporting but also deeply worried about the consequences of this situation on future generations.”

Balkhi warned that stocks of 42 percent of essential medicines and vaccines and 64 percent of medical supplies have reached zero. She noted that “around 400 trucks were allowed into Gaza, but only 115 managed to enter, and nothing has reached the besieged northern area.” None of the trucks mentioned belonged to the WHO. She also said that 51 trucks loaded with medical supplies are still waiting to cross the border.
