Workshop Reviews Sudan’s Native Administration Act

Khartoum, July 8, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development chaired a specialized workshop on Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters to discuss proposed amendments to the country’s Native Administration Act, reaffirming the importance of peaceful coexistence and support for the future of decentralized governance. The workshop was attended by Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza, along with legal experts, specialists, and advisers on native administration affairs. In his remarks, Wali Hamza highlighted the longstanding role of native administration in preserving Sudan’s social fabric, noting that the Ministry of Federal Governance recognizes its importance and is working to strengthen it. He said ongoing legislative efforts are aimed at reinforcing this role through a clear legal framework that safeguards the rights of native administration institutions and clearly defines their responsibilities. Such legislation, he added, would prevent overlapping mandates and ensure their effective integration into the country’s formal governance system. Concluding the workshop, the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development welcomed the Khartoum State Wali and the participating experts, emphasizing Khartoum State’s strategic importance as a hub for native administration communities from across Sudan, making its participation essential to the success of the legislative initiative. The minister said the discussions seek to produce clear and flexible legal provisions that support and regulate native administration through mutually agreed rules capable of advancing peace, security, and development. He added that the bill under discussion incorporates recommendations, observations, and proposals gathered during similar workshops held across several Sudanese states.BH/BH
